OUR STORY
Abolere’s story begins with an American soldier stationed in the Middle East during the Gulf War era.
By accident, this U.S. soldier learned that migrant workers from other countries who were there serving the soldiers were victims of forced labor at the installation. Eventually he discovered that U.S. taxpayers were unknowingly supporting this form of human trafficking around the globe at an alarming rate. The end of his service in the war did not stop this soldier’s desire to put an end to the forced labor American taxpayer dollars are directly funding. In the years since the war, his efforts have continued towards helping mistreated migrant workers who helped our nation. Inspired by this individual’s efforts, Abolere is a non-profit organization dedicated to abolishing forced labor in U.S. government contracts and helping the migrant workers who helped us..
The trafficking victims themselves have expressed hope and the belief that if the American people become aware of what is happening to them- they will help.
With the victims on a different continent and from other countries, too often the mistreatment of these workers remains hidden in the shadows. The old Out-of-Sight, Out-of-Mind adage applies. American taxpayers typically are unaware of this form of human trafficking their tax dollars directly support. Fortunately, there are methods which have successfully eliminated forced labor in government contracts while still providing needed labor. Yet these methods are little-known and rarely practiced.
Abolere seeks to change this.
We hope you will join us as we strive towards this goal.
NOTE: Abolere has seen no evidence whatsoever that U.S. soldiers or U.S. government employees are in any way responsible for the mistreatment of migrant workers. In fact, victims of forced labor are routinely ordered to refrain from speaking to or interacting with soldiers. Like the soldier in our story, it is believed that U.S. soldiers are unaware that forced labor is taking place near them.
